Terms & Conditions

The terms governing your use of Carstat products and services.

Effective Date: September 1, 2026

Carstat provides a range of vehicle data products. These Terms and Conditions apply to all of them, including Carstat API (our vehicle data API, comprising the Vehicle Specifications API, Recalls API and Technical Data API) and Carstat Garage (our consumer vehicle management product), referred to collectively as the "Services".

By accessing any of the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be legally bound by these terms.

Sections 1, 2 and 4 govern use of the Carstat API specifically. All other sections apply to every Carstat Service.

Key Usage Restriction: You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, and limited license to use the data. You may not use the Services to power any product that directly competes with Carstat's own offerings.

1. Acceptable Use of Data

By purchasing and using any Carstat API dataset, you represent and warrant that you will not:

  • Resell or Redistribute: License, sublicense, rent, lease, or distribute the raw API data to third parties as a standalone service.
  • Bulk Extraction: Use any robot, spider, or scraper to perform "bulk download" operations or create a permanent mirror of the database.
  • Reverse Engineer: Attempt to decipher, decompile, or disassemble any part of the API software or data structures.
  • Circumvent Limits: Use multiple API keys to exceed the maximum allowable query limits set by your subscription plan.

2. Attribution and Public Display

Where data obtained from the Carstat API is displayed to anyone other than your own personnel — including in customer-facing reports, publicly accessible vehicle lookup tools, or any page available to the general public — the following apply:

  • Attribution Required: A visible credit reading "Specifications provided by Carstat" (or alternative wording approved by us in writing) must appear within the same page module as the displayed data, legible without requiring user interaction to reveal it, and linked to carstat.app.
  • Commercial Licence: Using the Carstat API to power a publicly accessible vehicle lookup tool, decoder, or report product offered to the general public requires a separate written commercial licence. Standard subscription plans do not grant this right.
  • Waiver: The attribution requirement may be waived only under a written commercial licence agreement.

3. Data Accuracy & "As Is" Disclaimer

Carstat aggregates information from various manufacturers and regulatory bodies. The Services are provided on an "As Is" and "As Available" basis.

  • Carstat does not warrant the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of technical specifications or recall information.
  • Vehicle data is provided for informational purposes. Carstat is not liable for mechanical or financial decisions made based on this data.

4. Caching and Storage Policy

To ensure data integrity and platform stability, the following caching rules apply:

  • Caching, storing or otherwise retaining Carstat API responses is prohibited, except where a retention period is expressly agreed with Carstat in writing.
  • Where a retention period has been agreed in writing, cached data must be refreshed or discarded on expiry and must not be accumulated into a persistent local copy of the Carstat API catalog.
  • Bulk "scraping" or creating a permanent mirror of the Carstat API catalog is strictly prohibited.

5. Financial Terms

Subscriptions

Subscription plans will automatically renew for additional periods equivalent to the initial term unless terminated by you via the dashboard.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be issued for change of requirements or underutilization of API calls. Refunds may only be considered on a case-by-case basis for prolonged service outages or verified technical failures.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Carstat's aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these terms shall not exceed One Hundred U.S. Dollars ($100.00).

Carstat will not be liable for incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or computer harm resulting from the use of the Services.

7. Termination

Carstat reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, without notice, for any breach of these Terms, including suspected scraping or unauthorized commercial exploitation.

8. Changes to These Terms

Carstat may revise these Terms from time to time. The current version is always published on this page, with its Effective Date shown above.

  • Your continued use of the Services on or after the Effective Date of a revised version constitutes acceptance of that version.
  • If you do not agree to a revised version, you must stop using the Services before its Effective Date. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your dashboard.
